Most chiropractors use the manual method of adjusting, with the body positioned in specific ways to optimize the adjustment. Many patients are not comfortable with the twisting, popping, and pressure that accompanies manual adjustments.
At In Touch Healing and Chiropractic Center, Dr. Suzette Corbit, D.C., uses a much gentler technique to align your spine. Dr. Corbit adjusts your spine with the low-force "Activator" instrument. The Activator is a spring-loaded, hand-held, mechanical adjusting device. The Activator allows Dr. Corbit to provide a quick, low-force impulse at specific points to target the areas of your spine that are misaligned and creating pain. Dr. Corbit also incorporates manual, drop-table, and other techniques depending on your particular needs and preferences. She also adjusts extremities like feet, knees, elbows and shoulders.
Knowledgeable, Thorough and Caring
Dr. Suzette Corbit has over 30 years of experience as a Chiropractor and Massage Therapist. She has 17 years as a CranioSacral Therapist. Dr. Corbit cares about your well-being and is known for being thorough as she checks each area of your spine. As a chiropractor, she wants to get to the root cause of your problem, instead of just treating symptoms. She takes time to address related problem areas that may be contributing to your condition. Unlike most chiropractors, Dr. Corbit spends a minimum of 20 minutes adjusting your spine. Each appointment includes a short percussion action massage with a machine to relax your muscles and help you "hold" your adjustment longer.

Benefits of Massage Therapy
You can make an appointment for massage therapy alone, however it’s also a great adjunct to chiropractic care, helping you "hold" your adjustments longer by addressing muscle tension more thoroughly.

My lifelong passion is to help people see the sacredness of all living things; to treat other people, animals, and the earth with kindness. This has been the guiding principle throughout my journey learning about alternative health and wellness. I strive to do this through my daily interactions with others and as a Chiropractor, Massage Therapist and CranioSacral Therapist.
My first experience with chiropractic came three years after I had an accident that resulted in terrible neck pain. Chiropractic helped me tremendously and inspired me to begin the long journey of becoming a chiropractor. As a chiropractor, my goal is to help the people I work with feel better and to help empower them to make health and wellness a priority. My hope is, this will create a ripple effect, so they act more loving to other people, animals, and the earth. Learning to be kind and gentle with yourself is the first step.
I opened my practice in Traverse City in 1996 because of its many cultural events and its location near Lake Michigan. Over the years, I have witnessed the power of chiropractic to relieve pain, improve motion and remove nerve interference to promote overall wellness. It's rewarding when I inspire someone to make healthy lifestyle changes. I'm still learning too. I'm happier and more peaceful when I get enough sleep, eat well, exercise, manage stress, make time for creative writing, and have chiropractic adjustments.
Did you know?
You may know that chiropractic restores joint mobility and removes nerve interference to promote the body’s healing. But the latest research about how chiropractic works is even more exciting: it affects the brain!
A chiropractic adjustment is very specific- and different than other types of manipulation. The quick, shallow thrust (either manually or with an instrument) “re-sets” tiny receptors around the joint to help the muscles relax. These receptors also relay messages about the joint’s position to the brain (a sense called “proprioception”). Chiropractic facilitates this communication so your brain can pinpoint the exact position of a joint and accurately control its motion. This helps you avoid injuries.

Our first goal is to help reduce pain so you can start feeling better as soon as possible.
Your first appointment includes a comprehensive assessment of your health history and symptoms, along with a thorough exam, so Dr. Corbit can create a personalized treatment plan for you.The exam includes evaluation of posture and motion, along with orthopedic and neurological tests as indicated. X-rays may be ordered in some cases. Usually, we will provide same-day treatment, with chiropractic adjustments to correct spinal misalignment's/fixations ("subluxations"), to get you back to an optimal state of health.
The amount of chiropractic care needed depends on the severity of your injury, but typically a patient will need care 2 to 3 times a week for 4 to 8 weeks.
The restorative phase of treatment allows muscles and tissues to heal more completely in order to prevent further injury or pain. This stage typically requires chiropractic care 4 to 8 times per month for 2 to 3 months depending on your health.
Once you’ve fully healed and are experiencing no more pain, it is important to come in for periodic chiropractic adjustments to prevent future problems.
This phase usually requires a visit 1 to 2 times per month, based on your lifestyle.
A single adjustment is not a magic cure that will correct all the dysfunctions that have built up over the years. Nor will it protect you from physical and other stresses in your life like awkward positions and repetitive motions. A series of adjustments help retrain muscles and ligaments.
